Noise Pollution Analysis for Smart Cities

About this project

Currently we are building a noise pickup and analysis capability based on Raspberry Pi and a server. We develop a technology that enables two way communication between a  IoT device (Raspberry) and a computer/phone over a mobile internet without the need of having static IP or using Dynamic DNS service.

The other exciting part of our system is the audio/noise analysis and visualization. This information can be used by cities, real estate developers for noise management & cancellation purposes.

Our Proposal

Need: which problem(s) does your proposal solve?

We want cities, urban designers and real estate developers to be able to approach to topic of noise pollution in quantitative manner.

Approach: how does your project solve the problem(s)?

We use a mesh of microphones + IoT devices (12V battery, mic, Raspberry, 3G stick) that listen and record noise in city space and send this data to central warehouse. The data is then analyzed and visualized for better decision making.

Alternatives: what other alternatives could solve the problem(s)?

We could use peoples mobile phones to record the noise. Or to use super cheap elecrronc boards with embedded microphones that harvest energy or are powered by street lighting posts.

Benefits: what are the benefits of your proposal?

Measurement driven aka evidence based decision making of noise pollution reduction would reduce anxiety, fatigue and mental disorders of the residents of cities.

Advantage: what gives your project the competitive edge?
  • The technology how we can remotely access to the IoT device with no static IP not DDNs service is pretty unique itself.
  • The noise pollution map with timeline will also be pretty unique.
  • Also  the automated events triggering based on extraordinary events like shooting, screaming, ect.
Prospective Partners: what might you expect from prospective project partners?

We are looking for partner who could give us access to the teclo network.
We are also looking for IoT partner for sharing an IoT infrastructure so we can measure noise or otherwise harvest the noise data.
A 200 000€ would help us to devote more time for this project.
