Our Proposal

Need: which problem(s) does your proposal solve?

Mobility plays a fundamental role for the economy and society. Being the main economic sector in the world, in addition to being itself a sector with a high employment rate, mobility is an indispensable element for the competitiveness of the economy as a whole and contributes significantly to economic growth, employment and to the growth of cities.

Nonetheless, road transport alone is responsible for almost a fifth of EU emissions, posing a serious threat to public health, with consequences for users and especially for residents of European cities: premature deaths due to air pollution that produce respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.

In addition, road transport congestion causes huge inefficiencies, due to lost productivity and wasted fuel for traffic, estimated at 2% of EU GDP (100 billion euros). For example, in 2015, at a global level, every driver lost an average of between 19 and 50 hours a year in traffic, with a European average of 31 hours and peaks of over 100 hours a year in the most congested cities, where more than 50% of the population live. Such economic loss due to traffic and transportation inefficiencies is especially heavy for freight transport, 50% of which is based on road transport (almost three-quarters on land).

Unfortunately, as numerous analyzes confirm, investments in physical infrastructures offer only a partial solution to the challenges of urban mobility, as a single-capacitive approach is too simplistic and unsustainable, while existing systems have reached the maximum capacity limit and are close to breaking point.

Approach: how does your project solve the problem(s)?

Kiunsys offer enables the development of solutions that optimize the governance of mobility through the organic redesign of processes, infrastructures and technological services for management, control, monitoring and services to the citizen, in order to simplify the definition of mobility policies, increase the purchase methods and payment channels, improve control, optimize the management of a variety of technologies and systems of different suppliers.

Our Internet of Things technologies allow cities, public utilities and private companies to experiment and activate in an organic and large-scale way innovative services for final users and businesses aimed at achieving the economic, environmental and social sustainability, for a mobility with low environmental impact, low energy consumption, low rate of accidents and higher levels of productivity.

Kiunsys portfolio includes a full Internet of Things ecosystem for mobility management, consisting of a central cloud management platform and a series of complementary SW/HW systems, able to support and influence the driver's behavior along the various phases of the journey (eg. information on the availability of parking and guidance to vacant bays, booking and payment of mobility and parking, information and payment of access fee in limited parking traffic zones and areas):

- INES Cloud BSS/OSS: Kiunsys core product, hardware independent, recognized as the mobility SAP®, it is able to manage the regulations and services for the access, transit and parking of vehicles, people and goods, and to unify the management of several on-field mobility/street devices of different manufacturers: cameras, parking sensors, flow sensors, barriers, parking meters, automatic ticket machines, LED displays, variable message signs, environmental sensors, on board unit, AVM.

- RFID Mobility Pass and RFID Mobility Gate: electronic devices for the identification, tracking and automated control of vehicles and people, to implement access control in Free Flow / Fast mode, enforcement of Access Control Schemes (eg. Congestion Charge, ZTL, APU) for several types of vehicles, people and goods, etc.

- Parking Sensors: wireless sensors for detecting the presence of vehicles in parking bays, with advanced technological features:

+ double sensing technology: magnetometer, ultrasonic

+ triple networking capabilities: LoRA, Nb-IoT, 169MHz

+ additional sensing: BLE, UHF RFID

+ battery life of 7-10 years

- Tap & Park, Smart Fines, mOBU: three distinct mobile apps for three categories of users

+ for end users: infomobility/infoparking, guidance, payment of parking and mobility services (es. bike sharing, transport ticketing);

+ for law enforcement: vehicle verification and sanctioning;

+ for logistics operators and freight: vehicle tracking and in-vehicle information and payment.

Alternatives: what other alternatives could solve the problem(s)?

Kiunsys products are fully working in operational environments (TRL9), since they are deployed and used everyday in 45 cities and are available to over 9 million users. In Italy we work with Naples, Florence, Trento, Pisa, Parma, Milan, Rho, Crema, Mantua, Verona, etc., while in Europe, thanks to the collaboration with Deutsche Telekom, our techs are present in the cities of Hamburg and Bonn (Germany).

Benefits: what are the benefits of your proposal?

Kiunsys smart mobility solutiona provide several benefits to both end users and mobility/parking operators.

Benefits for the mobility and parking manager

The central management platform INES Cloud BSS/OSS offers a unified system for the control and integrated management of the whole mobility, able to provide a unified inventory of on-field technologies, vendors, on/off street parking lots, tariffs, payments, services to final users, etc. capable of processing large amounts of data and offering a powerful decision support tool, with the following benefits:

- Vendor independent integrated management of on-field technologies for monitoring and maintenance

- Better financial control: cash flows, transactions, penalties, flows, parking use, etc.

- Dematerialization and optimization of processes

- Deeper knowledge of the mobility and parking behavior of citizens

- Increased certainty and effectiveness of verification

Benefits for end users

- riduzione del tempo perso nel traffico

- aumento della velocità commerciale

- riduzione degli sprechi di carburante

- riduzione dell’inquinamento atmosferico e acustico

- migliori qualità e disponibilità dei servizi di informazione e pagamento

Advantage: what gives your project the competitive edge?

Kiunsys key differentiators is the hardware vendor independence: most competing solutions, in fact, are developed as management platforms for a specific mobility process and related hardware product. For instance a Parking Management System, covers only the management of its own branded parking meters; a LTZ permits management system is locked in to its own CCTV system. INES Cloud instead creates an ecosystem able to integrate existing and future hardware, of its own and of third parties, in a producer independent way. For example, INES Cloud is able to manage and unify the data coming from its own parking sensors and also parking sensors made by diverse manufactures and based on heterogeneous technologies, like cameras, providing a unified dashboard and a unified information stream to digital channels like LED display, web/mobile apps.

As a consequence, INES Cloud is a sustainable investment covering existing and future hardware investments and helps mobility and parking managers to avoid binding to a specific hardware manufacturer and their expensive maintenance contracts.

Prospective Partners: what might you expect from prospective project partners?

The mobility and transportation market is dominated by a limited number of large international groups with a long experience of more than 20-30 years and a well established position, like for example Autostrade Tech, Swarco, Kapsch TrafficCom, Skidata, PTV Group, Parkeon, Came Parkare, Faac Hub Parking, etc.

To consolidate its market presence and increase its competitiveness in this demanding arena, Kiunsys is establishing strategic partnerships with global, well recognized technological partners with a well recognised brand and an international reach, such as system integrators, telcos, network providers with a market strategy for Smart Cities in Europe and worldwide (like Deutsche Telekom).
