Fresno_overview

The City of Fresno is California’s 5th largest City.  It is located in the center of the San Joaquin Valley which lies between the Sierra Nevada and Pacific Coast mountain ranges and is 220 miles north of Los Angeles and 185 southwest of San Francisco.  It is surrounded primarily by agricultural land, and Fresno County is the nation’s leading producer of agricultural products.

Fresno was incorporated in 1885 and serves as the County Seat of Fresno County.  The city government of Fresno blends elements of a council-manager system with a “strong Mayor” system.  In this form of municipal government, the city council serves as the City’s primary legislative body and the mayor serves as the City’s chief executive.  The mayor appoints a city manager to oversee the City’s day-to-day operations and implements City policies.  Residents are represented by seven council districts.  The current mayor is Ashley Swearengin.

The City of Fresno is exited to be a part of the NG Connect Program.  We feel that it is an invaluable program that will help in advancing our City’s initiatives.
