The task is to identify a business opportunity which can be solved with one or more public data sources and develop a business model which utilizes data sources. The opportunity may - but does not need to - use capabilities of fifth-generation (5G) networks like Edge Clouds. A typical submission is expected to include an overview of technical implementation and business related analysis of the proposal. The inclusion of a demonstrator and/or detailed technical description would provide added value to the proposal.
Any relevant data sources used in the proposal are expected to be openly accessible, e.g., APIs of Smart Cities, meteorological data, etc. The submission can also propose new open data sets which do not yet exist but would enable innovation. It is expected that the submission is innovative and novel and not a simple business case built on top of a single data set. Relevant techniques may involve, for example, multiple data set(s) or combining a data set with a model to create value-add, or employing other means of data augmentation to the same end. All new ideas for adding business value to open data sets are welcome.
As an inspiration, the MegaSenseproject of Bell Labs and University of Helsinki augments measurements from ubiquitous low-cost sensors with calibrated infrastructure to achieve dense coverage for air quality measurements at a low cost. Even though this is not a productized solution, it exemplifies the technological potential of innovative data manipulation. University of Helsinki is planning to extend the testing to Beijing.
