3GPP standardization dictates that 5G voice will use the same IP Multimedia Subsystem based architecture used in Voice over LTE, Voice over WiFi. Voice over 5G is just different ways to access the same IMS based voice services.
In his recent blog, Zoltan Varnai describes important roadsigns for operators in their journey to 5G voice and the main deployment scenarios on the evolution of the voice services is visualized focusing on the importance of IMS.
If the IMS core is running in the telco cloud, the operator has more flexibility to develop new service bundles where one important component is voice. Describing a few example use cases we describe the importance of an open ecosystem of applications where voice over 5G is an inevitable component!
