Do you have technologies that could be disruptive for 5G communication networks? Submit them by 30 April for a chance to develop your solution with Nokia.
Open Ecosystem Network challenges are real-life problems waiting to be tackled by you, your team or your company. Many of them aim at launching pilot projects and business partnerships around the best proposals.
This article is about an ongoing challenge related to 5G. If that’s not your thing, please take a look at other available challenges!
Technologies for 5G and beyond – what is this challenge about?
5G will take network performance to an entirely new level. We are not talking about faster Netflix streaming, but an IoT revolution: digitalisation will spill out of smart devices and into the world around us, empowering things like smart traffic, smart buildings and smart cities.
Nokia is now looking for potential partners with disruptive technologies and solutions that will be enabled or made significantly better by 5G.
If you think about a smartphone, it’s not just the hardware but also the apps that make the device valuable for the end user. It’s the same thing with networks. Advanced network technology is essential for the emergence of 5G, but the applications and solutions empowered by that technology are just as important for end user value.
Ultimately, these applications and solutions define the needs of Nokia’s network customers and the end users whom they serve. Nokia wants to build its 5G offering in a way that meets and anticipates these needs. That’s why Nokia is interested in cooperating with companies that develop technologies and solutions for the 5G era.
What kind of a solution is a good fit for this challenge?
Nokia is looking for things that could complement or enhance Nokia’s technology offering. Pretty much anything goes, as long as it’s best in class and going to benefit from the emergence of 5G.
The solutions could be meant to be used by Nokia, Nokia’s operator customers or even end users. Examples of interesting domains include – but are not limited to! – artificial intelligence, machine learning, virtual reality and security.
In this challenge, your idea should consist of more than just presentation slides. If you’re proposing hardware, you’ll probably have a prototype to show. If your solution is software or a service, you might have a concept in place or an algorithm available for testing.
Who can send a proposal?
The most obvious participants for this challenge are companies that already operate within the telecommunications ecosystem.
Nokia is particularly interested in proposals from players that have great ideas but are yet to find ways of making their voices heard. These could include companies that don’t currently have a direct relationship with Nokia.
But this is just to give you an idea, not to restrict anyone from attending. Everyone is welcome to submit a solution!
What’s in it for me?
That will depend on the content and maturity of your proposal. You could end up starting a design for manufacturing process together with Nokia, testing your solution in Nokia labs or negotiating over selling some of your intellectual property.
At the very least, all submitted proposals will be reviewed, and their owners will receive feedback.
When is the deadline?
The challenge welcomes submissions until 30 April 2018.
