Day@Nokia

September 6, 2018 marked an important milestone in Nokia’s University collaboration with the Day@Nokia event thanks to the meticulously planned and well executed programs with the ecosystem partners and, the top universities in Bangalore and Mysore. The hard work and dedication of the teams paid off well with a good representation from the themes on “Learn with Nokia”, “Research with Nokia”, and “Nokia Technology Leadership in the Academic Ecosystem”.
With over 1000 students benefitting immensely from Nokia programs and 120 students in participation at the venue from across the 10 university partners and students across IEEE student branches across Karnataka; we started off with the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by an exciting walk to the future in the form of “Future X Webinar” delivered by Bell Labs colleague. The excitement simply got better with an extremely energetic and interactive panel discussion on “Will Machine Learning Power the Future” by gathering of experts across industry and academia.
The 2nd half of the day was adorned with an exhilarating student roadshow – an exciting demonstration of various topics across 5G/IoT/Analytics-Machine learning/Robotics topics, a challenging white paper contest for the professor/research community on SDN/Machine Learning/Telecommunications and Nokia Research Lab tour for the students.
In the end, it was a befitting culmination to a year’s journey of rare collaboration and partnering that saw new partners added to the Nokia UC family. Indeed, it was a proud Day@Nokia and we look forward to more in the years to come!

The run-up to the event

It included a White paper contest and a Campus Code Rally
The White paper contest received submissions of top quality research papers from different universities across Wireless/SDN/Analytics topics competing for the top 2 slots.
The campus code rally was conducted for 9 colleges comprising of 3 quizzes + final competitive coding round with a rush of 800+ registrations as the participants racked their brains to demonstrate their coding prowess in this gripping event.

What role can OpEN Ecosystem play for the Indian Ecosystem?

OpEN can give shape to the research ideas that come from academia in many ways, from pure consulting to technology advisory through to providing a window to the market. Some of the students’ ideas may be further developed through collaboration between the local universities using OpEN as the platform of collaboration.
Also, OpEN can serve as the catalyst to extend this local collaboration into global collaboration. The best of research minds from universities globally can make big ideas come true, if OpEN can facilitate such collaboration.
