With the Open Ecosystem Network (OpEN) the name is a very big part of the promise: Being “open” will always include being open to more markets all over the world. Therefore, we sent our dear Chinese colleague Shi Tao from Nokia Shanghai Bell, Ecosystem & Alliance to an IoT event organized by the China Consultants International Ltd & French Tech in Hangzhou, China, to present the Open Ecosystem Network to a larger audience of interested people.
Focusing on the Internet of Things (IoT), Shi Tao pointed out how to help service providers, enterprises and governments use the IoT to create new opportunities every day using NOKIA solutions – from services to applications, tools as well as platforms, infrastructure and devices.
“Our solution provides the seamless fabric that combines end-to-end connectivity with flexible, secure, horizontal platforms, device certification and an IoT ecosystem. We focus on real-world business models, use cases and building partnerships that will help you unleash the value IoT will bring your business”, Shi Tao pointed out during his presentation.
The IoT and OpEN: Delivering data democracy
Creating such a “seamless fabric“ can however not be done without help – this is where the Open Ecosystem Network comes into play. “Using an innovative ecosystem for the IoT is crucial“, Shi Tao went on to explain, “as without an open co-creation space, there is no accelerator hub for all the ideas and clever minds that work in this field.“
But what could this open co-creation space be? You guessed it: The Open Ecosystem Network. In his presentation Shi Tao went on to explain how OpEN can and will help enable people to exchange ideas, discuss challenges and promote further solutions to the problems of tomorrow.
One thing that stood out is the idea of delivering data democracy: With OpEN NOKIA is promoting the idea that data should be available to everybody - this includes promising technology as well as patents.
Creative energy only sparks when everyone has the same material at hand – this is what data democracy should be about
With the promise of accelerated development cycles, an open innovation as well as collaboration hub, OpEN proposes a truly new way of working with different ecosystems from different industries: Starting projects, finding challenges or joining communities and discovering new opportunities – with OpEN everything is just a click away.“, Shi Tao went on to explain.
Including factors such as data democracy, there are of course other key drivers to the Open Ecosystem Network, no one can deny: For example, leveraging a vast network of partners, using the collaboration to accelerate the time a solution takes to be market-ready or leveraging innovation from the ecosystem’s community.
This can be shown when taking a look at how businesses are already using the Open Ecosystem Network: Providing assets, discussing and creating in communities, finalizing projects as well as setting up new challenges in hopes of finding new business partners.
One project group Shi Tao pointed out were the current Smart City projects: OpEN hosts already several Nokia Smart Cities challenges and soon will integrate a digital marketplace for the E2E Smart Cities Portfolio.
OpEN also has a very recent available feature with the target to promote collaboration between experts and non-experts, who can offer new and different perspectives in the field: The Smart Cities community.
Especially, Shi Tao shared Helsinki data &EIT Digital Challenge cases, and this made a deep impression on all audience.
OpEN is ready for transformation: Working together to make a magic world
Shi Tao ended his presentation with an open question round – fueled by the input before, there were understandably a lot of questions.
One for example was the difference between OpEN and a cloud service which can be answered relatively simply: Whereas a cloud service is most of the times much more of a software service, OpEN is rather an environment of likeminded individuals working on solutions together rather than waiting for them to be created.
Several other questions regarding county policies, intellectual property rights as well as positioning towards universities were also discussed and showed that OpEN once again can not only be part of a discussion but as a tool also be a key driver in the solution to a lot of discussions.
Finally , Shi Tao empasized , “IoT is a big opportunity , and OPEN is the great way to success. OpEN is ready for transformation, and it is OPEN to the industry, Welcome to join “Open Ecosystem Network”, let’s work together to make a magic world! ”
